switch gears
play music
words tumble, toss and turn
in my mind
and trip off my tongue
into lyrical nonsense that makes me smile
for a while
I am at ease
my mind at rest
the rat race of my day to day
my agenda
my ignorance of
my responsibilities
never more than a fleeting thought
It’s no wonder I can’t sleep!
why I lie
awake and wait
for the bird to chirp
for the dawn to break
the bell has rung and I have a hall pass!
to awaken and walk the corridors of my mind
permission at last to participate
a waking hour worker
not the 3am freak of productivity
not the midnight phantom of prose
